-- FINLAY (w/Hornswoggle) vs. THE MIZ (w/John Morrison)

They returned from break with the action already in progress here. Finlay pulled off his traditional ring apron spot and landed blows on Miz. Morrison tried to run up to him, but Finlay stopped him short. The distraction then allowed Miz to punch him off the apron to the floor and ram him into the ringpost. Back in the ring, Miz continued his attack on Finlay's shoulder.

Fans tried to rally behind Finlay at 7:00, but Miz kept working on the shoulder. Morrison tried to steal the shillelagh on the outside, but Hornswoggle provided distraction. After Miz tried to run-around with Hornswoggle in the ring, Finlay took advantage of the moment to catch Miz the Celtic Cross. He made the cover for the win.

WINNER: Finlay in 10:00 of TV time. Fine singles match. Miz worked hard on the offensive before the standard kids-friendly finish featuring Hornswoggle. It would be nice to see the tag champs pick up a credible victory for once, but that's not the formula for feel-good WWE TV. (*1/4)

7/11/08 SmackDown! Spoilers

Smackdown

Edge and Vickie Guerrero do a good promo to set up a match with Edge taking on Big Show.

Next is ECW star Matt Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin. It was a short match, with a lot of missed spots. Benjamin gets the win. They may redo this. It was that bad.

MVP came out to ringside to do color for Mr. Kennedy vs. Domino. Kennedy won a squash. Umaga squashed Kennedy post- match as MVP approved.

Finlay and Horny beat The Miz and John Morrison when Finlay used the shillelagh and Horny hit the Tadpole splash.

Chavo Guerrero tried to kiss Vicki's butt and got a match with HHH. There was an absolute insane pop for HHH. It was his standard match, 4 minutes, Pedigree. Game over...pun intended.

Natalya scored the pin in a divas tag match.

Jesse and Festus beat Ryder and Hawkins via countout.

Vladimir Kozlov beat Stevie Richards. The crowd made a mass exodus to the stands/bathroom and didn't care.

The main event is coming to the ring now.

Big Show came out to massive pyro. Vickie was at ringside for the match. Show took control early on. It wasn't much of a wrestling match, more of a fight. It was a damn good brawl. The finish saw Show block a Conchairto and hit a Chokeslam. Show went for his own Conchairto and Vicki made the save. Edge re-proposes and they will now get married next week. That's it. It was actually kind of anticlimactic.

ECW Spoilers

ECW On Sci-Fi: (Airing Tonight)

* The show opens with Mark Henry coming out and saying he is the savior of ECW. Tommy Dreamer comes out along with Colin Delany and they challenge Henry to a title match. He tells them they have to earn it. Colin Delany vs. Mark Henry later tonight. If Delany wins, Dreamer gets a title shot.

* Matt Hardy, Finlay, and Hornswoggle b. Chavo Guerrero, The Miz, & John Morrison I'm told there was a lot of good back and forth action during this match.

* They cut to a promo of Colin Delany and Tommy Dreamer.

* Atlas Ortiz b. Armando Estrada
Ortiz is a developmental talent from FCW. I'm told he got the win with a backslide.
* Mark Henry b. Colin Delany
I'm told Henry dominated in a quick squash match. He won via pin fall after hitting the world's strongest slam.

Night of Champions Results

DALLAS – Staying true to their prediction in the latest edition of "The Dirt Sheet," WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz defeated the father-son duo of Finlay & Hornswoggle in front of a sold-out crowd at the American Airlines Center.

Using strategic teamwork, Miz & Morrison mounted a strong offense to start the match. Later, the duo punished and taunted Hornswoggle. As Hornswoggle's father came to the rescue, it looked as if the pair was going to turn the tables against the champions. But just as Hornswoggle set up for a Tadpole Splash, the Shaman of Sexy put a stop to it, ripping Hornswoggle from the top rope to pick up the pinfall.

Both teams are sure to cross paths again thanks to the 2008 WWE Draft, which brought Finlay & Hornswoggle to ECW – home of the WWE Tag Team Champions. With all four Superstars competing in the Land of the Extreme, what will happen next?

Witness the fallout from Night of Champions on ECW on Sci Fi on Tuesday at 10/9 CT.

Night of Champions Preview

The team of John Morrison and The Miz has held the WWE Tag Team Championship for seven months, defending the title on both SmackDown and ECW. While they've come out on top in match-ups thus far, at Night of Champions they'll be taking on the father-son team of Finlay & Hornswoggle, after the Irish duo made their golden intentions known on SmackDown two weeks ago.

Since then, the champions and challengers have crossed paths on both ECW on Sci Fi and Friday Night SmackDown, each tandem attempting to gain the upper hand in this budding rivalry. And Miz & Morrison haven't been shy about taking cheap shots at Finlay & Hornswoggle on "The Dirt Sheet."

And while SmackDown is Finlay's home brand, the Belfast brawler and his pint-sized partner have made their presence felt across all three brands in the past year. With Finlay's aggressive street fighting style and Hornswoggle's unorthodox maneuvers and hijinx, the champions will have a very unique fight on their hands.

Though Morrison and Miz have recently proven themselves formidable champions, defeating the likes of ECW Champion Kane & CM Punk in tag team competition, can Finlay & Hornswoggle's Irish onslaught be enough to finally relieve the cocky champions of their titles?
